-
Placemat
or cotton canvas: 20" x 20" square (Wash it to remove sizing
before stamping on it.)
-
Deka
or Sennelier fabric paint for cotton
-
Paint
brushes – round or flat for applying paint onto objects
-
Fruit:
lemons, apples, oranges
-
Potatoes:
Cut a 1/2" thick round slice; use a cookie cutter to cut
a shape out of the slice (another option is to cut a
potato in 1/2 and use an X-acto knife to cut a design),
empty thread spools, plastic forks.
Directions:
- Lay the 20" x 20" square of painting canvas
or white cotton placemat on top of newspapers.
- Choose several objects that would make interesting "stamps" when painted
or dipped into fabric paint.
- Paint or dip those items. Carefully "stamp" the shape onto the centerpiece
material. Stamp one color at a time. If there is to be any overlap of colors,
let the first color dry and then stamp the second color over it.
- Try repeating stamps in rows or rotating the stamp to create a changing
pattern.
- Let the design dry. Heat set the fabric paint according to the directions
on the bottle.
- Hem the edges of the 20" x 20" cloth if necessary.
- Put in the center of a table and put candles or other decorative items
on it.
